JOIN THE SUSTAINABLE RESTAURANT ASSOCIATION AND WATERSCAN FOR A FREE-OF-CHARGE WEBINAR, EXPLORING WHY WATER STEWARDSHIP MATTERS TO YOUR BUSINESS AND HOW YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
We are pleased to invite you to join a free-of-charge online webinar exploring why water stewardship is a priority for hospitality businesses. Co-hosted by Waterscan and The SRA, the session will provide insight into the complex issues surrounding water scarcity and offer expert advice on how to manage this precious resource in ways that support both your ESG goals and your bottom line, build long-term business resilience and support our natural environment.
The webinar will run from 9:30am to 10:30am (GMT) on Wednesday 18th March and is free to join. This session is open to an international B2B hospitality audience and suitable for anyone working in hospitality, from day-to-day teams to senior operational leaders. It’s relevant for all hospitality businesses, including hotels, restaurants and caterers. No prior technical knowledge is needed — just an interest in why water matters and how your business can make a difference.
Water scarcity: a rising concern
While water scarcity might not yet be high on your list of priorities (especially for businesses in areas that don’t currently suffer from drought), this issue is much more urgent than you might suspect. At our current rates of consumption, two-thirds of the world’s population may face water shortages by 2025. The climate crisis is accelerating this problem, altering global weather and water patterns, resulting in droughts in some areas and floods in others. More than half the world’s wetlands have disappeared, while rivers and lakes are drying up or becoming too polluted to use. Meanwhile, our agricultural system relies on high volumes of water, tying future food security — and the survival of the hospitality sector — to dwindling freshwater reserves.
Why hospitality businesses should care about water use
Large-scale water waste is a problem in almost every foodservice business, meaning that there is the potential for enormous volumes to be saved by implementing better practice and more careful monitoring across the industry.
Across the world, hospitality businesses are already seeing the impact of growing water risk:
- Water costs are rising, increasing utility bills.
- Water shortages are disrupting supply chains.
- More regions are becoming water stressed.
- In some regions, hospitality businesses are facing limits on water use, leading to reduced services and, in some cases, temporary closures.
- Governments are responding with tighter regulation, reporting requirements and mandatory action emerging internationally.
The good news is that reducing water waste can be very straightforward; significant volumes of water can be saved by making some simple day-to-day changes and potentially replacing some equipment. Plus, restaurants and hotels that build water-efficient practices into their daily operations can also see reductions in operating costs and energy use.
It’s time for hospitality businesses to have a clear understanding of what they can do to reduce risk, control costs and build resilience — all of which will be covered in this timely webinar.
What to expect from this session
Hosted by The SRA and Waterscan, this session will bring clarity to growing water risk and what hospitality businesses can do about it. The webinar will explore why water matters as a core utility and business cost, and what rising prices and increasing scarcity mean for day-to-day operations. We'll look at how data-driven insight can help businesses understand their water use, reduce leaks and improve efficiency, before focusing on what good practice looks like in reality across leadership and operations. The session will also cover water procurement, collaboration and available funding, alongside an overview of emerging water risk, policy and regulation that hospitality businesses should be aware of as expectations continue to shift internationally.
There will be time for audience questions, and follow-up materials will be shared to support wider learning. Both organisations will also be available for follow-up conversations or to support businesses looking to go further with their water management or wider sustainability work.
