How can we inspire the world’s best restaurants and bars to serve up sustainable excellence?
When in 2013 the SRA and The World’s 50 Best Restaurants first collaborated to add a new, special award to the most high-profile global restaurant awards, it was seen as genuinely progressive and forward thinking.
The mechanic was simple. All the restaurants on the vaunted list were invited to enter the Sustainable Restaurant Award. To do so, they had to complete a version of the SRA’s already respected sustainability rating, tailored to suit restaurants the world over.
Eight years on and the partnership has expanded and deepened. Now, in 2022, every venue on the 50 Best lists – not just The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, but also The World’s 50 Best Bars, as well as Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants and Asia’s 50 Best Bars and Restaurants – receives the invitation to participate and put their credentials to the test. Middle East & North Africa’s 50 Best Restaurants join the party in 2022 too.
Hundreds of chefs, restaurateurs, bar owners and bartenders have had the opportunity to review their sourcing, environmental and societal practices. Each year, more participate. As these, the best operators, demonstrate and share the innovation they are bringing to their kitchens, dining rooms and bars, they help inspire many more chefs and bartenders – not to mention thousands, if not millions, of customers globally to use the power of their appetites wisely.
