Inaugural 'The World’s 50 Best Hotels' list to include Eco Hotel Award
We’re perennially proud to work in partnership with 50 Best, judging the sustainability awards across their events portfolio. This year is particularly exciting, as September will see the inaugural The World’s 50 Best Hotels awards – the first ever hotel-focused edition of these prestigious awards.
The list will be revealed on Tuesday 19th September at a highly anticipated awards ceremony in London's Guildhall. Bringing together the teams behind the absolute best hotel experiences across the globe, the night will celebrate the cream of the industry, culminating in an exciting countdown to reveal the name of The World’s Best Hotel 2023.

The Flor de Caña Eco Hotel Award
The Sustainable Restaurant Association is thrilled to be involved. We’ll be judging the Flor de Caña Eco Hotel Award, which will champion one hotel’s outstanding efforts towards sustainability.
Our judging process for this award is rooted in our Food Made Good Standard and based on a wide range of criteria, encompassing both environmental and social responsibility. Hotels must self-nominate for the prize, providing documentation and completing an extensive questionnaire that assesses business practice across our three key areas: Sourcing, Society and Environment. Existing accreditations, such as B Corp status, will be considered in the assessment process.
It's now more important than ever to recognise that incorporating tangible, measurable and continuous work towards sustainability must be part of what makes any good hospitality business great. It makes a big impact for a brand as distinguished as The World’s 50 Best to shine a spotlight on this crucial work across every one of their awards lists, including this first-ever edition of 50 Best Hotels.
We’re delighted to have our friends at Flor de Caña on board as the official partner of this award.
How The SRA works with 50 Best
In 2013, The World’s 50 Best introduced a new award, the Sustainable Restaurant Award, to celebrate one restaurant on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list that was going above and beyond to serve food fit for the future.
In order to judge this award, 50 Best enlisted our help as the experts in what sustainability should look like for the hospitality industry. Based on our Food Made Good framework, we developed a globally relevant questionnaire for restaurants to use in their application, providing us with information across three key areas: Sourcing, Society and Environment. Over the years we have developed this questionnaire to ensure it captures the changing issues faced by restaurants who want to operate sustainably.
Since 2013 our work has expanded to cover all seven lists produced by 50 Best, assessing restaurants and bars around the world – and now, for the first time, hotels.
Celebrating chefs and restaurants on a global level, from highlighting MUME in Taiwan for showcasing the best of local ingredients to Aponiente in Spain for working tirelessly to protect our oceans through their menu, the range of initiatives underway is endless, and we’re consistently impressed with the ever-increasing standard of entries. The competition is heating up at the right time – we need these globally recognised businesses to demonstrate how and why a restaurant deserves to be rewarded for putting people and planet first.
