FOOD MADE GOOD IN TAIWAN
Green Dining Guide
Green Dining Guide (GDG) is a green-eating promotion campaign launched by the Taipei Cultural Exploration Association in 2018. Chia-Ying Ho, Co-Founder of GDG, has over a decade of experience working with Taiwanese restaurants to promote sustainability. When GDG started on its mission to promote sustainability, it used the Green Food Manifesto: prioritising the purchase of organic foods, buying local, following sustainable principles, decreasing the number of additives, providing vegetarian choices and reducing wasted resources.
The movement grew quickly, with more than 200 restaurants in Taiwan on board by 2023. GDG was the perfect choice to become a new partner for The SRA and, in early 2023, Taiwan joined the list of The SRA’s key global partnerships (also including Japan, Hong Kong, Italy and the UAE), created to extend the reach of the Food Made Good Standard.

By supporting local restaurants as they progress through the Food Made Good Standard and become certified, GDG is actively promoting the concept of sustainable dining in Taiwan and engaging more Taiwanese restaurants on their sustainability journey.
In summer 2024, The SRA and GDG announced that the Food Made Good Standard platform was now available for use in Traditional Chinese, making it even easier for businesses in Taiwan to sign up, assess their sustainability and learn how to improve even further. This marks the fourth language for the Standard, with more to come.
WHAT IS THE FOOD MADE GOOD STANDARD?
Developed by The Sustainable Restaurant Association, the Food Made Good Standard is the only global sustainability certification that has been designed especially for the hospitality industry. Robust and evidence-driven, the Standard takes a comprehensive, holistic approach to what sustainability should mean for this influential industry, based on detailed criteria across its three pillars of Sourcing, Society and Environment. The Standard measures progress, encourages a culture of continuous improvement and rewards excellence, and is a core part of how we work to achieve our mission of driving positive change through the F&B sector worldwide.
Where IS THE FOOD MADE GOOD STANDARD AVAILABLE?
In summer 2023, a new version of the Food Made Good Standard was launched, with a new more user-friendly platform and a brand new website. As we redeveloped the the question set that restaurants must complete for their evaluation and the supporting evidence required, we called on a range of experts to contribute. Not only is the Standard now more rigorous and comprehensive, but it's also globally accessible and relevant for F&B businesses anywhere in the world. The Food Made Good Standard now has a presence in almost 30 countries, with our network including restaurants, hotels, cafés, bars, catering companies and universities.
