FOOD MADE GOOD IN ITALY
BRINGING FOOD MADE GOOD TO ITALY
The Sustainable Restaurant Association was proud to bring Boniviri on board as a global partner in June 2023.
Established in 2010, Boniviri is a benefit company whose mission is to support small local farms to market their products with a focus on sustainability at all stages of production and marketing, and to help clients such as chefs, resellers and end consumers find sustainable, healthy, top-quality foods. Boniviri was included by The World’s 50 Best in the 50 Next, the list of 50 most influential global initiatives in the field of gastronomy.
The team at Boniviri has created a network of 14 small Italian agricultural companies with whom they collaborate to develop food products of the highest quality. Meanwhile, they support their clients — such as restaurants — with consulting activities in the search for sustainable and excellent raw materials. They also create innovative and high social value solutions for corporate gifting and welfare.
Boniviri’s motto is “Eat well doing good”, expressing the concept that when we buy food, it’s more than nourishment: it’s allocating value to a certain kind of economy and way of doing business. They believe that by eating well, it is possible to do good by paying attention to the origin and sustainability of products and the stories of those behind them.
The goal of this partnership is to help restaurateurs, food and beverage managers and chefs across Italy implement and improve their sustainability practices and address key issues in the food system, while also spreading the word about the Food Made Good Standard.
FOOD MADE GOOD IN ITALY TODAY
In addition to supporting F&B businesses as they go through the Food Made Good evaluation and accreditation process, the team at Boniviri works closely with Italy’s hospitality sector to offer support during the transition to a more sustainable future. This includes speaking opportunities, hosting events and developing practical resources.
In March 2024, Boniviri hosted a session at the Make in South event in Isola, Catania, to showcase the Food Made Good Standard and provide insights into the world of sustainable food. This included a panel discussion, networking opportunities and the new Food Made Good Italy Award, a contest designed to promote sustainability in the hospitality sector by awarding the winning business with free access to the Food Made Good Standard.
WHAT IS THE FOOD MADE GOOD STANDARD?
Developed by The Sustainable Restaurant Association, the Food Made Good Standard is the only global sustainability certification that has been designed especially for the hospitality industry. Robust and evidence-driven, the Standard takes a comprehensive, holistic approach to what sustainability should mean for this influential industry, based on detailed criteria across its three pillars of Sourcing, Society and Environment. The Standard measures progress, encourages a culture of continuous improvement and rewards excellence, and is a core part of how we work to achieve our mission of driving positive change through the F&B sector worldwide.
IS THE FOOD MADE GOOD STANDARD AVAILABLE GLOBALLY?
In summer 2023, a new version of the Food Made Good Standard was launched. Not only did this include an updated, more user-friendly platform and a brand new website, but we also called on a range of experts to contribute as we re-developed the question set that restaurants must complete for their evaluation and the supporting evidence required. Not only did this modernise the Standard and make it more thorough, but it is now also accessible and applicable for F&B businesses anywhere in the world. The Food Made Good Standard now has a presence in almost 30 countries, with our network including restaurants, hotels, cafés, bars, catering companies and universities. You can read more here about how the Food Made Good Standard continues to drive change across the globe.
