JCS Fish

Description

As a supplier of farmed fish, we believe that aquaculture has a key role to play in reducing sourcing pressure on wild fish stocks. It's also a more efficient way to grow protein-rich food than the farming of land animals. Nevertheless, we're also aware that irresponsible fish farming can have a negative impact on the environment. That's why we choose only reputable suppliers that we know and trust, all of whom are focused on growing healthy salmon with the absolute minimum of impact on the environment and wild fish stocks. We require our Scottish suppliers to be members of the Scottish Salmon Producers Organisation (SSPO) and to observe its detailed Code of Good Practice and we're also a chain of custody supplier within the GlobalGAP and Aquaculture Stewardship Council standards for sustainable aquaculture practice. Although at present we use only farmed species of fish, we are also certified to the MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) chain of custody standard for wild caught fish. JCS Fish also sets high standards for the environmental management of our own business in Grimsby. We are proud of our Silver accreditation in the national Investors in the Environment (iiE) scheme.

Our primary sustainability goals for 2018 are (1) to maintain and hopefully improve on our Investors in the Environment accreditation and (2) to develop and start to implement a new Eco policy for our packaging. We have begun an audit process which is reviewing every element of our packaging, from goods inward through to finished product, and will begin a change process reviewing every element of packaging. Our aim is minimise our use of non-recyclable plastic and optimise our overall use of recylable alternatives such as cardboard.
