We're Ecotricity, the worlds first green energy company. Green electricity didn't exist in the world back in 1996. When we offered it for the first time, we became not just Britain's but the world's first green electricity company - and we kick-started the now global green electricity movement. Our mission was and remains to change the way electricity is made and used in Britain. We operate a unique model. We use our customers' energy bills to fund the building of new sources of green energy. We like to refer to this as turning 'bills into mills' - energy bills into windmills, sunmills and - soon - gasmills. We're a not-for-dividend company - our profits go back into our mission.

Sustainability Goals

Ecotricity’s purpose in life is the environment. We’re here to promote sustainable living in all its forms. Our major activity is changing the way energy is made and used in the UK. And even though windmills save carbon we know that our operations have an impact. We don’t just ‘try’ to reduce our impact or ‘pledge’ to; we’re working on it all the time. It’s just what we do, it’s in our DNA. We’re the only energy company to be EMAS accredited across all of our sites. Our sustainability goal for 2018 are wide ranging and cover all our operational area’s including Energy: reducing our energy use, gaining planning for 50MW of battery storage and installing an additional 25,000 smart meters. Waste minimisation: Improving waste diversion from landfill, introducing additional recycling facilities for waste into our offices. Behavioural change: Increase numbers participating in volunteering programmes, to a hold a series of sustainability talks as part of our green Britain Partnership & internally launch a sustainability training module for staff. Water: To reduce consumption on 2017 per member of staff. Reducing resource consumption; decreasing our carbon footprint on 2017, and reducing our energy use per member of staff plus improve self-serve opportunities for our customers & installing additional EV charging in staff car parks. Lastly we will be working on the roll-out of our new mobile network ‘Ecotalk’ which uses customers mobile phone bills to buy land to give it back to nature, within this we will be looking to further protect biodiversity and will be increasing the number of flowering plants around ecotricity sites for pollinators.
