Eat Grub

Description

Eat Grub’s mission is to normalise the eating of insects in the West. They want the UK and Europe to embrace insects for the delicious, nutritious and sustainable food they are.

The company was founded in 2014 by friends Shami Radia and Neil Whippey. Having previously worked in sustainable development, Shami first tried insects on a work trip to Malawi. After doing more research on the environmental credentials of farming insects compared to traditional livestock, their impressive nutritional qualities and – most importantly – a lot of taste testing, the friends decided to trial the concept by launching several pop-up restaurants across the capital. They partnered up with top chef, Sebby Holmes, and received fantastic reviews from both the press and public.

This gave them the confidence that the UK would learn to love grub. Since those initial pop-ups Eat Grub have launched several award winning product lines from raw ingredients to ready-to-eat snacks, and have witnessed growing awareness and acceptance. Where once insects were only referred to as a bush tucker trial, they are being hailed as a food of the future. Having supplied over 800 restaurants, food service outlets and retailers across Europe including Sainsbury’s, Ocado, Wahaca and Abokado, they are looking for more partners to support them in promoting this sustainable superfood.
