Bermondsey Street Bees

Description

Bermondsey Street Bees supplies restaurants, hotels and bars with single varietal raw English honeys and honeycomb. As a sustainable beekeeping practice, we prioritise bee welfare above profit and quality of honey above quantity. Our honeys are English, single varietal and raw. They are never blended, never heated above hive temperature and never micro-filtered, leaving all of the delicate flavour and nutritional components intact.

We maintain a Honey List which is notable for character and individuality. A crunchy, bittersweet Yorkshire Ling honey is a very different matter from an unctuous golden Cotswold summer honey.....

Involved with policy making and sustainability initiatives at local and national level , Bermondsey Street Bees also contributes to international research including COLOSS and The World Bee Project. One of our primary concerns is the devastating loss of natural forage in the developed world. Hunger undermines bees' immune systems, making them less able to resist the many other stresses they face, from pests and diseases to agrochemicals and climate change. Many of our hives are in London. which has the densest hive population in Europe, and as a policy we will never place additional hives in the city without planting substantial, durable forage to sustain them and prevent negative impact on other vital pollinators such as bumblebees.

Alongside our beekeeping, we run a wide ranging programme of community garden building and education, helping people to understand the key environmental issues facing bees.... and how they can support British artisan beekeeping and raw honey production against the background of an international commodity trade in highly processed, trans-shipped and corrupted 'honey'.

Bermondsey Street Bees also runs a beekeeping consultancy, advising businesses on Corporate Social Responsibility programmes involving bees and establishing best practice apiaries. Alongside our own apiaries, we run the hives at Lambeth Palace, The Charterhouse London, Hilton Bankside and other locations which actively support our bio-diversity policy.
