Event Description

Every year, food produced for human consumption is wasted, and produces a colossal amount of methane and CO2 in landfills.

It is the duty of the hospitality industry to steer society’s food habits in the right direction, given our influence. However, still globally, at least 30% of food produced is wasted, at a cost of £770bn.

And UK hospitality alone wastes nearly 1 million tons of edible food.

So this May, with the launch of Food Waste; Bad Taste, we are urging hospitality businesses across the country to step up and take action to Target, Measure and Act on food waste in their business, as per WRAP’s latest framework, with our guidance. The first tailored programme of its kind for foodservice to reduce food waste.

Join us, and newly appointed Government Food Waste Champion Ben Elliot, on Monday 20th May to launch Food Waste: Bad Taste, a hub of good information, guidance and full programme of support to help the industry address the problem, and help it reduce food waste by a quarter by the end of 2020. We will be announcing the full agenda and speaker rota over the coming weeks.

A panel discussion with inspiring professionals across the industry – including Pizza Hut, Rubies in the Rubble, Hawksmoor – will start the morning, before a detailed discussion on ‘Re-use and Redistribution’. Experiences and insights from the first cohort of our programme will also be shared, with coffee and brunchies to fuel your networking skills so you can productively kick-off of your food waste journey.

Register space for you and colleagues to attend and:

–       meet other members and suppliers

–       share knowledge, good practice and policy

–       hear from industry leaders such as Ben Elliot

–       ask all the questions to help you make the best decisions for you!

Let’s make changes together for the greater, long-term good of people and planet.
